Seven Plants That Are Good For Your Health

These seven plants will improve your health and enhance your wellbeing.

It’s been said that surrounding yourself with beautiful plants and flowers can instantly improve your mood. Summer Lodge Country House Hotel and Restaurant is situated in a quaint countryside village, and is surrounded by acres of delightful plants and trees, as well as Dorset’s rolling hills. Plants are known to boost both efficiency in the workplace, as well as having a calming effect at home. From peace lilies to lady palms, these seven plants will improve your health and enhance your wellbeing.

Peace Lily

With its broad leaves and beautiful white blooms, Peace Lilies are one of the only air purifying house plants that also flower. They are highly regarded for their ability to remove three common pollutants from the air; formaldehyde, benzene and trichloroethylene. Maintaining the plants is also relatively easy, as they only require light, airy space and water.

Lady Palm

Part of the Rhapis Excelsa group, Lady Palms have been known to improve a room’s air quality by removing the gas, formaldehyde.  If you have recently decorated the house or have used paint and cleaning products, it’s the perfect plant to keep. Lady Palms have also been proven to boost a room’s humidity by up to 5%, so it’s great if you have a tendency to get dry eyes or a dry nose.

While Lavender hasn’t been proven to purify the air, it does have a wonderful ability to reduce stress levels and anxiety. The plant is also said to aid rapid eye movement and with insomnia as it reduces a room’s CO2 levels. Its crisp, sweet scent makes it the perfect bedside plant, especially after a long and tiring day.

Snake Plant

Despite its name, the Snake Plant is among the best plants to have in your home. Not only does it emit oxygen at night, but the plant also removes formaldehyde and CO2 from the air during the day, meaning there’s a continuous cycle. What’s more, the plant produces runners so you can keep growing more and either build up your own collection or give them away to friends and family.

Aloe Vera

Like other house plants, Aloe Vera removes unwanted toxins from the atmosphere and also emits oxygen at night. Because of this, it is perceived as an aid to insomnia and healthy sleeping. Additionally, the gel from Aloe Vera is especially helpful as a topical treatment, and can sooth burns, insect bites and even acne.

Spider Plant

One of the best houseplants in the 1989 NASA Clean Air study, Spider Plants are able to remove 90% of the chemical formaldehyde from the air. The best place to situate a spider plant is in the bathroom or kitchen, where you are likely to use chemical based cleaning products. The good news is that they are also extremely easy to keep alive.

Growing tulips is a great way to add colour and vibrancy to your home. Although maintaining the bulbs isn’t as easy as other flowering plants, it is well worth the effort. Tulips have been proven to eliminate formaldehyde, xylene and ammonia, which can be found in a number of beauty products.
