Combining the significant talents of Summer Lodge Country House Hotel, Restaurant and Spa’s award winning sommelier Eric Zweibel, and Head Chef Steve Titman, the hotel’s Wine Dinners are a bon viveur’s dream, combining the educational with the utterly delicious. Taking place throughout the year, each dinner involves a three-course meal with wine pairings, and focuses on a particular house or style of wine at each event. The dinner typically includes a guest speaker, who is there to enlighten and entertain diners as they savour a menu devised by Steve Titman to accompany the evening’s wines. This year’s programme includes wineries from all over the world, from local Dorset winemakers to producers from the other side of the globe, as well as themed nights that explore different wine pairings such as cheese and wine and chocolate and wine.
Guest Chef Robby Jenks kicks off the summer season, teaming up with Steve Titman for what’s set to be a fantastic evening on 8th May. Likewise, Eric Zweibel will be joined by sommelier Romain Bourger for the event, a previous recipient of the Young Sommelier of the Year UK award. Featuring alternate courses and alternate wines chosen by each chef and sommelier, the evening an enjoyable showcase of exceptional talent and a great way to discover new wines and flavour pairings.
July’s wine dinner is a celebration of Australian viticulturists, d’Arenberg. Known as one of the longest established vineyards in Australia’s McLaren Vale, the family-run winery was founded in 1912 and by the 1970s the wines produced here had attracted a national and international following. Taking care to maintain traditional practices, such as using a basket press, the house is best known for its Shiraz along with its Grenache and Cabernet Sauvignon. August sees the return of the much-loved and very special 5 Sommelier Black Tie Dinner. This event has been taking place at Summer Lodge for over 12 years and sees sommelier Eric Zweibel invite a group of his wine expert friends– many of whom are renowned sommeliers in their own right – for an evening of entertainment and some friendly competition. Diners can expect to sample a variety of exceptional wines, from classic vintages to new innovations, guided by the extraordinary knowledge of the sommeliers.
