Great Dorset Beach Clean

Bringing together hundreds of volunteers to help keep our stunning southern shores clean.

Flying the flag for a cleaner, happier, plastic-free environment, the Great Dorset Beach Clean from 27th to 28th April 2019 is a family-friendly event that brings together hundreds of volunteers to pick up litter from England’s stunning southern shores. All visitors need to do is pick a beach that’s convenient for them, with cleans are scheduled to happen all along the Dorset coast from Lyme Regis to Friars Cliff, and turn up. Bringing your own pair of gloves is advisable but equipment will be provided. Helping to preserve the magnificent Jurassic Coast and keep it in excellent condition, the Dorset beach clean supports a great cause and packs in a guaranteed feel-good factor. Discover what’s involved in a beach clean and why we should all be giving it a go.

Get to grips with reality

While we’re frequently informed about the plastic problem facing the natural environment, the best way to understand the scale of the issue, and what we can do to help, is by witnessing it first-hand. Giving an hour of your time can make a big difference in maintaining the beauty of the Jurassic Coast for future generations.

Have a wider impact

As with any social movement, the more widely it’s seen and heard about, the more awareness can be raised. Social media is a great tool for this, inspiring others to get out in nature and have a go at conducting their own beach clean, however small, in Dorset and beyond. Furthermore, the findings of those taking part in an organised beach clean are often used to inform research in preventing future coastal litter.

Give back

If you’ve ever enjoyed the incredible beauty of the natural landscape, a beach clean can be a great way to show your appreciation and care for the natural world. Plastics and litter present a real threat to marine life, with animals and birds getting caught up in old fishing nets or ingesting litter that we leave behind. Spend a small amount of time counteracting the negative effects that humans have on the environment.

Get outdoors

Taking part in the Dorset beach clean is a fantastic way to get outside, stretch your legs, take a breath of fresh air and boost your mood. Soak up the stunning coastline as you stroll along the beach, meet like-minded volunteers and make a difference to the environment at the same time.
