- Accommodating Nature
We like to make the most out of our wildlife areas, even the mud piles. Our gardeners have created a bug hotel out of old wood stacks and mud, you can find them in our wildlife areas.
- When food waste is inevitable, we recycle
Recycled food waste that cannot be recycled into our compost pile is collected and driven only 5 miles to a bio-digester near Cerne Abbas, where it gets produced into electricity. The bi-product then gets collected by local farmers and spread onto fields to enrich the crops.
- Making the most out of our gardens
Growing fresh vegetable, fruits and herbs is important to us, the plants are ready for the kitchen to use and our chef changes his menus to accommodate growth. Any extra is sold at the Post Office, ensuring we do not have any wastage.
- Coffee for plants
Any excess coffee grounds are composted and used on the gardens and vegetable patches. Therefore, reducing the need for chemicals and the coffee grounds make a great fertiliser for the plants.
- Dressing the ground
Our wood chipper allows large pieces of wood and trees to be cut down into much smaller pieces to provide chippings for the various plant pots around the hotel.
- Giving back from the garden
Although Christmas may be over we still plant the Christmas wreath materials, which are grown on site, both outside and in the poly tunnels.
