WINES OF DISTINCTION
Sommelier
Eric Zwiebel has created a cellar at Summer Lodge that is a source of wonder for wine lovers. Filled with his personal selection of outstanding wines, both famous names and lesser-known growths, the walls are lined with bottles to delight, excite, and provide the perfect accompaniment to the exquisite cuisine served in our restaurant. Working with chef Steven Titman, together they have also created a magnificent
Wine Dinner programme that is an occasion not to be missed!
Eric has both vast experience and a stunning list of achievements in the arcane arts of the glass. In
2004 he was named Ruinart’s UK Sommelier of the Year (as past winners are ineligible for further competition, he now acts as a judge) and in
2007 was listed among the
world’s four most accomplished practitioners in the
Best Sommelier of The World Competition, in which he was also the sole finalist from his native France.
The list he has created for Summer Lodge is truly spectacular, and has received the prestigious
‘Best of Award of Excellence’ from
Wine Spectator, every year since 2005. Guests will find not only a superb range of the great names of the wine world, but also an intriguing selection of lesser-known (and less costly) bottles. Eric is usually on hand in the restaurant if required to make recommendations, assist you with your choice of wine to accompany your meal, and share his deep passion for all things vinous.
