New Year at Summer Lodge

Dorset is pretty special at any time of the year – but its enticing mix of rustic charm, unspoilt countryside, ancient heritage and leisurely way of life is especially attractive at the tail end of this particularly hectic period of shopping, entertaining and celebration! Where better that this calm and secluded rural retreat to slow down, draw breath, wind down from all the excitement of 2008, and recharge your batteries for the year ahead?

Far from the madding crowd, you’ll be able to take a leisurely dip in our heated pool, while away a few hours being pampering in our spa, and revive your spirits with a splendid afternoon tea in the Drawing Room. Move slowly into the clubby cosiness of the bar, and limber up gently for the gastronomic delights to follow (it’s far too early in the day, unfortunately, to start working your way through the 600 whiskies on offer!). Then, once you are fully prepared, throw self restraint to the winds and revel in the inspiring seasonal fare lovingly created by Steven Titman, our world renowned Head Chef (whilst simultaneous exploring one of the world’s most outstanding hotel wine lists!)

Summer Lodge is one of the very few places your whole family will want to come back to, time and again.

You all get unlimited access to the pool and spa, plus there’s four acres of wonderful gardens to play in, with croquet, tennis and bikes to keep everyone occupied.

If you can bear to leave the grounds there’s the gorgeous unspoilt landscape of Hardy’s Wessex to explore, and all the wonderful beaches, rock formations and ancient fossils of the Jurassic coast only minutes away by car. With its winding lanes, thatched cottages, Neolithic hill forts, ruined castles, Roman towns, quaint seaside resorts, stately homes and wealth of historical curiosities, it’s an area you’ll never tire of (but which will leave you all happily exhausted).

Then, with the kids tucked up in bed, you can enjoy the award winning cuisine in a dining room designed by Thomas Hardy himself (or, weather permitting, outside on the terrace).
