Apollo (or Hymen) crowning a Poet and giving him a Spouse at Kingston Lacy

Event: Apollo (or Hymen) crowning a Poet and giving him a Spouse at Kingston Lacy
Date: June 7th onwards

After languishing in storage for almost 30 years, a painting from Jacopo Tintoretto is set to go on display in Dorset after being painstakingly restored.

The painting from the leading Renaissance artist is to be shown at Kingston Lacy in Dorset after the National Trust spent £36,000 bringing it back to its former glory.

It might be an ideal attraction to those staying in the luxury Dorset hotel the Summer Lodge Hotel and visitors may even be able to help the National Trust identify the themes of the work, as the body has admitted there is still some uncertainty surrounding the painting.

"We're still baffled as to some of the content of the painting," remarked painting conservation adviser for the National Trust Christine Sitwell, adding: "We would love anyone out there to tell us what they think it could be."

Known as 'Apollo (or Hymen) crowning a Poet and giving him a Spouse', the work features eight figures - one of which is believed to be either Apollo or Hymen - placing a crown on an unknown individual.

After seeing the masterpiece first hand, guests at the Summer Lodge Hotel who are taking advantage of the Get More From Your Stay package will be able to relax and enjoy afternoon tea in the comfort of the hotel's grounds.
