Baby Swans Hatching at Abbotsbury Swannery

Spring is a time for new life to emerge and families enjoying a stay at the luxury Dorset hotel the Summer Lodge can witness the birth of baby swans from mid-May.

The Abbotsbury Swannery is the only place in the world where those on a short break can see for themselves the emergence of a new being in all its beauty and innocence.

Established in the 1040s by Benedictine Monks, the swannery is a unique location and the only one to offer people the chance to walk through the heart of a colony of Mute Swans.

Kids will love seeing hundreds of fluffy cygnets break their way through their shells and come into a big wide world which they know so little about.

The swannery promises a wonderful time for the whole family, with everybody getting some fresh air, sunshine and having a great time together.

With this in mind, those staying at the Summer Lodge can choose the Family Retreat package, which includes two adult and children's tickets to the swannery.

Once the day is done, the kids can enjoy the welcome pack of DVDs and comics while mum and dad relax in the spa.
