Guests at luxury Dorset hotel Summer Lodge might like to take the short trip to Dorchester Showground this September for a weekend of family fun.

The Dorset County Show, taking place on the first weekend of the month, is bursting with activities in celebration of the county's customs and local entertainers.

For example, The Flying Gunners will be showcasing their daredevil motorcycle formations, while Jonathan Marshall will be demonstrating his falconry skills.

Children can 'hug a hound' as part of the Festival of Hounds and motor enthusiasts will take in the selection of vintage cars - and tractors - on display.

Peace and quiet will be in short supply at the show, thanks in part to the Town Criers Contest, at which five-times champion Alistair Chisholm will be defending his crown. There will also be plenty of musical entertainment courtesy of The New Forest Plonkers and the East Sussex Concert Band.

And there is no reason for the fun to stop there. Families that are booking accommodation at Summer Lodge can enjoy tickets to the nearby Swannery Tropical Gardens and Children's Play Farm as part of the hotel's Family Retreat offer.
