A new landmark event is taking place in Dorset this summer, one which guests staying at luxury Dorset hotel the Summer Lodge will not want to miss out on.

Between July 5th and 13th 2008, the inaugural Spirit of the Sea Maritime Festival will celebrate the region's relationship with the sea in more than a dozen individual and exciting events.

Opening with the Chesil Trust Charity Ball at the Weymouth & Portland National Sailing Academy on July 5th 2008 there are plenty of activities which will engage all ages.

Guaranteed family fun for those staying at the Summer Lodge can be found on Weymouth Beach, opposite Alexandra Gardens on July 5th in the form of a storytelling session by Chris Bennett: Stories by the Sea. The Moving Tide children's procession on July 12th is also set to be a highlight of the festival.

Sailing trips on magnificent ships such as the Earl of Pembroke, sailing championships and live music are among the events scheduled for this July.

Art in the Park, taking place on July 12th, rounds the festival off nicely. Set in Easton Gardens and Easton Methodist Hall, Art in the Park is a showcase of local arts and crafts.
