Activities in Dorset to suit everyone

There is so much to do in and around the Dorset countryside and the staff at Summer Lodge are experts when it comes to recommending places to go and things to see. Below you will find a list of our favourite activities which are sure to enrich your experience. These do need to be arranged in advance so please contact us to organise your activities prior to your visit.

Wine Appreciation Workshops at Summer Lodge

Enjoy an afternoon workshop with our own Cellar Masters, Eric Zwiebel MS and the Assistant Sommelier including one Champagne, two white wines, two red wines and one sweet wine. These sessions are available between 4.30pm and 6pm and cost £120 per person.

Learn to Cook

Cooking workshops at Lesley Waters' Cookery School, a 15 minute drive from the hotel. It’s not just about the cooking though. It’s the whole day; meeting people and enjoying the atmosphere where you can relax, learn and laugh.

Wine Tours

Take a tour of the Furleigh Estate vineyard and winery including tasting. This 85 acre property situated in the south-west corner of Dorset is just a 20 minute drive from the hotel and tours operate every Friday and Saturday at 2pm. All Furleigh Estate sparkling wines are International Gold Medal Winners.


Attend a green woodworking course at Guy Mallinson’s Woodland Workshop in Lyme Regis, about 15 miles West of Evershot. Their green woodworking courses are suitable for everyone: novices and experienced woodworkers; interested amateurs or anyone just keen to try out something new.

Guided Walks

Lyme Regis is a fantastic place for walks and the following guided walks are on offer from The Lyme Regis Museum which is a 50 minute drive from Summer Lodge.

  • Join professional guide Natalie Manifold for a walk around Mary Anning's Lyme Regis. Learn about the life of 'the greatest fossil hunter ever known'. Explore the town as Mary knew it, see where she lived and where she sold her fossils. The walk follows the old paths and streets of Lyme and is moderately difficult with some steep slopes and approximately 20 steps. Flat shoes and waterproofs are recommended. The duration of this walk is approximately 90 minutes.
  • Get Fossilling on the Jurassic Coast! Come and join in with one of our famous Fossil Walks along this historic stretch of Dorset coast with Lyme Regis Museum Geologist Paddy Howe and Marine Biologist Chris Andrew.
  • Take a journey through the unique and colourful history of Lyme Regis and see how people lived and how the town has developed through the centuries. This walk is on fairly level ground through the town centre starting from the Marine Theatre and ending at the sea front, lasting 90 minutes.
  • Rock-pooling sessions on the Jurassic Coast are also on offer with Lyme Regis Museum Geologist Paddy Howe and Marine Biologist Chris Andrew.

Creative Country Workshops

Local artists and craftspeople share their skills at Highway Farm in Bridport, a 25 minute drive from Summer Lodge. One and two day workshops are available including willow sculptures, hazelwood garden furniture and, watercolour painting to name a few. These sessions are done in small groups and bookings are essential. Gift vouchers are also available.

Kingcombe Environmental Studies Centre

Natural history, wildlife, archaeology and art & craft courses run all year at Kingcombe Environmental Studies Centre. Bookings are essential and gift vouchers available. The centre is a 20 minute drive from Summer Lodge.

Dorset Wildlife Trust

The Dorset Wildlife Trust runs a programme of walks, talks, workshops, work parties and other wildlife events. It is a 20 minute drive from Evershot.

Monkton Wyld Court

Monkton Wyld Court is a one hour drive from Summer Lodge and runs a programme of walks, talks, workshops & courses and other countryside events.

Watercolour, Acrylic and Mixed Media

Marilyn Allis is a water colour artist and runs classes from either The Studio, East Farm, Winterborne Whitechurch, Blandford (10am - 3.30pm) or The Studio, Unit 2a Lower Courtyard Rogers, Hill Farm, Briantspuddle (10.30 am - 3.30pm).
