Dorchester gears up for carnival

  • Category: Family Fun

The citizens of Dorchester are preparing for their annual carnival, which will see the entire town bedecked with all manner of decorations as various performers take to the streets in a celebration of summer.

Happening as always on the third weekend of June, which this year falls on the 14th and 15th, the extravaganza promises enough fun and festivities to entertain the entire family over the two-day period.

This year has excitingly been declared 'No Theme Year', meaning attendees are free to dress however they like - favourite pop band, cartoon character, the possibilities are endless.

Among the attractions, a full procession through the town's central streets has to be a highlight, with some of the fancy dress and floats on display sure to be absolutely spectacular.

Also worth checking out is the street fair, which will have plenty of toys for sale as well as locally produced good quality artisan goods.

There will be plenty of opportunities for audience participation in events such as the Carnival Charity Pub Race and the Party in the Park, both of which have been designed with all the family in mind.

The entertainment doesn't stop during the day, with the chance to check out the bands playing in the Borough Gardens from 7pm in the evenings.

As always, the primary objectives of the carnival are to provide a good time for everyone involved, and also to raise money for charity, with a variety of good causes to be assisted by the proceeds.

Make a weekend of it and stay at Summer Lodge, where you can surround yourself with unlimited luxury as part of the Pure Decadence package that offers the chance to take part in a 30 minute sweet wine tasting session and a number of other spectacular additions.
