Category: Family Fun Date: Monday, 01 January 0001 With bonfire night on the horizon, families everywhere will no doubt be working out which events would be best to take the kids to. While it's traditional to enjoy the obligatory evening together watching the fireworks, why not make a full weekend of it this year? Falling as it does in the middle of the winter term, November 5th could provide a great treat for kids and grown-ups alike, considering the Christmas holidays still seem so far away. Sherborne Castle's Firework Extravaganza is the perfect occasion for those looking for more than just your average bonfire event. Book into the Summer Lodge and make yourself ready for some stellar family entertainment. The fun starts at 5pm, with the extravaganza kicking off with tasty food and great music to get you in the mood. Pick up a jacket potato and get as close as you can to the live band. At 7pm, it's time to shift over to the bonfire and watch as the Guy is placed ceremonially on top, to cheers and applause. But the star event that everyone is waiting for is obviously the fireworks. These are set to start at 7:30pm and, judging by Sherborne's track record over the years, visitors can expect a stunning display worthy of Gandalf from The Lord of the Rings. Brent Mitchell, director of Events Crew which provides the technical aspects to the festivities, commented: "The Sherborne Castle Fireworks is run by local people for the benefit of the local community and that sets this event apart." "All the money raised stays within the area and we think that is a great selling point when people are making the decision of which show to see." More than 8,000 people turned out to watch last year's spectacle, which was run on a James Bond theme in order to celebrate the iconic British character's 50th anniversary. Make sure you're one of the attendees this year. For suitable cuisine to go with the fireworks extravaganza, make sure you book into the Summer Lodge with the Quintessential British Experience offer, which features a full English breakfast the next morning and an English cocktail on arrival.
