People visit Dorset for many reasons, but one of the main draws is most definitely the stunning countryside and wildlife on show in the county. With rolling hills, picturesque lakes and an attractive coastline, Dorset is a great place to be outdoors.

And this autumn there's even more reason to get out and about, with the RSPB hosting a series of bird watching events that will enable you to take a closer peek at Devon's wonderful wildlife, which includes birds of prey such as the osprey.

If you're planning to stay in a luxury hotel in Dorset this autumn it's well worth checking out the RSPB's events page, but to give you an idea of what to expect, here are some of the highlights:

Radipole Kingfisher Weekend

The kingfisher is arguably the most beautiful bird in Britain and it's a breathtaking sight seeing one diving for fish. However, they can be quite elusive creatures unless you know where to look.

For the best chance of spotting one on your Dorset holiday, head to Radipole Lake on Saturday September 21st or Sunday 22nd where experts will be on hand to help. Kingfisher Weekend is free, so you'd be crazy to miss out.

Radipole Lake Nature Reserve is a real oasis in the heart of Weymouth, so it's well worth a visit at any time of year.

Field Trips

In October, a number of field trips are taking place, including an excursion to Portland Bill on Saturday 5th. Contact the RSPB to book your place on the minibus and enjoy a fantastic day of birding with like-minded enthusiasts from the local area.

If you love the countryside, look no further than the Summer Lodge for your accommodation during your visit. This grade II listed property is located among the green countryside in the picturesque village of Evershot, just 30 minutes from Radipole Lake, where the RSPB is holding events throughout the autumn. Currently, you can take advantage of a 3 nights for the price of 2 offer.
